The reason why we must upgrade the Wordpress version to latest one is security problem. As we know, and that I have been experiencing, the oldest version ( Wordpress 2.7) has problem with security hole. And on newest version, this problem has been fixed.
Now the Wordpress development still research for the tought one. As we know, on Oktober 20, 2009 , Wordpress release new version (2.8.5). This version fix issue with security.
For some one who want to upgrade to the latest version, there 3 major methode. We can select wich methode that comfort with us. The 3 methode to upgrade are :
1. Use file transfer application, such Filezilla. We can easily upload new version of Wordpress to our web server directory. Before we can do this, we must download the .zip file. As I know, Filezilla can not decompressing file automatically, so we have to unzip the file before. Then we can put in upload queue to our web hosting server directory.
2. Use our C-Panel or X-panel. Of course, we have to download the file before as like as we use file transfer aplication. The major different this methode is thru File Manager in C-Panel, we can upload .zip file and this file will be unzip automatically.
3. Automatic Upgrade. This is the easiest methode. You don’t have do hard work. Just few click and the process will be run automatically. You just need FTP login account to webserver directory.
Advantage and disadvantage
What is advantage of all methode above?
1. When we use FTP transfer, both methode, thru file transfer application or by C-Panel, we can monitor the process. By seeing the process we can know which file that failed to upload, so we can minimazed problem that can be appear.
2. When we use automatic update thu Admin Dashboard, we can monitor the process, but take less time.
By my experiencing, when you have poor internet connection, I suggest you use manual upgrade and I most prepared doing thru C-Panel. In the other side, if your internet connection is good, use automatic upgrade, it can take a half to one minute process.
The choice is in yours. Find how to upgrade your Wordpress methode that suite for you.

sejauh ini tdk ada masalah dgn plugin yg sy gunakan, karena sudah compatible dgn versi 2.8 -up ..
untuk amannya, saat upgrade, deactive-kan semua plugin dulu ..

punya saya yg satu lagi juga sama, error saat upgrade. Kemungkinan besar koneksi terputus saat proses.
core dari proses upgrade semua menggunakan ftp transfer. kenapa proses upgrade otomatis lebih cepat karena speed upload koneksi kita umumnya lambat. dan tidak termasuk folder wp-content …

sebenarnya tdk ada istilah aman, cuma kalau manual kita bisa monitor kegagalan transfernya, hanya butuh waktu agak lama, dibandingkan lewat otomatis.
blog ini upgrade lewat ftp, tapi blog sayayg lain lewat otomatis, keduanya berjalan mulus …

sebaiknya wp-content gak usah diupload, gak mau khan harus beres-beres theme dan plugins lagi? Satu lagi file wp-config.php, ini juga sebaiknya jgn, karena wp versi sekarang penamaan prefik untuk database beda dgn versi lama.
Untuk safety, backup dulu databasenya, deactifkan plugins baru diupdate ….
